Exhibition of “Vertiefung Darstellungstechniken” (BA,Arch)

“Transformation” CAAD + BIGG  (BA 402, SoSe 2026)

On Thursday, 1 October 2026, the module Vertiefung Darstellungstechniken held its final presentation of the A1 posters. The module was led by Prof. Hans Sachs in cooperation with BIGG. Its aim was to teach students to use 3D modelling and visualisation tools to develop and present an architectural design, combining media from hand sketches to computer-aided modelling and rendering.

Course Structure
The semester centred on an experimental “Cliffhanger”, a building on a rock face, developed in two tasks:

Task 1, “Object”: Based on photographs (three-view projection), students modelled a self-chosen object in Rhino. They then unfolded its developable surfaces, added glue tabs and built a paper model of around 30×30×30 cm. Deliverables also included orthographic views and an “Arctic” render.

Task 2, “Skyscraper + Poster”: Students transformed their object into a fictional skyscraper set in a landscape of their choice. They disassembled, modified and extended the model, scaled it up and tested configurations with sketches and paper-model photos. The result was visualised with renderings (e.g. Twinmotion), AI-generated or AI-manipulated images, drawings and photographs, then combined into a collage and laid out as a DIN A1 poster in Affinity Publisher or InDesign.

The Posters
Each poster showed a key shot of the fictional design, ideally developed in a “DIGILOG” way, i.e. as a hybrid of digital and analogue methods. Around it, the posters documented the multimodal process: hand sketches, paper model, Rhino modelling, and visualisation with render software and AI. Together they traced the path from everyday object to architectural vision.

Spontaneous Exhibition
After the presentations, the best works were put on display in the upper airspace of the “Riegel”, the Faculty G building. The exhibition was set up spontaneously and remains on view for about another one to two weeks.
