Contextual Computational – Facade Design
Buildings should ensure the protection, safety and well-being of their users. The façade plays a special role in this context. It represents the transition from the external environment to the interior and has to fulfill further tasks and functions besides shaping the formal-aesthetic character of the building. It significantly influences the comfort of living and the energetic performance of a building and additionally has a huge impact on the urban living quality. As the façade acts as the mediator between the exterior and the interior it has to deal with changing climatic influences on the one hand and diverse user requirements on the other hand. The use of computation in architecture and engineering offers new possibilities for a generative façade design that often results in new formal expressions and progressive constructions while considering the above mentioned diverse requirements.
The project aims for the development of a façade particle, element or system integrates latest technologies or knowledge in interactive, reactive or dynamic façade systems. The competences of respective fields of study at the TH OWL should be integrated into design, development and the realization of a 1:1 Mockup of an alive, adaptive or responsive façade element for an existing or fictive building.
